1 Timothy 4:16 (ESV)
Keep a close watch on yourself and on the teaching. Persist in this, for by so doing you will save both yourself and your hearers.
Doctrine is essential to growing and understanding what we believe as followers of Jesus Christ. The point of Doctrine is to gain understanding of who the God of the Bible truly is. Sadly, many of us go through life with little understanding of why or what we believe. These are the closed handed beliefs of Resurrection Church:
Trinity: One God who exists in three persons: God the Father, God the Son (Jesus), and God the Holy Spirit; who are each fully and equally God in eternal relation with each other.
Jesus: We believe that Jesus is God’s Son incarnate. We believe in the complete deity and humanity of Jesus. We believe that Jesus was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, performed miracles, died a brutal, atoning, bloody death upon the cross, rose three days later, and is returning in power and glory.
Holy Spirit: The Holy Spirit is equal with the Father and the Son as God. He is present in the world to make men aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every believer from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth and guidance in doing what is right. The Christian seeks to live under His control daily.
Bible: The perfect, inspired word of God, and our highest authority on life.
Image: All people are created in the image of God, but all have willingly rebelled against God in sin. Because of this, we are spiritually dead in our sin and desperately need salvation from God.
Salvation: There is only one way of salvation, and all people must be saved by grace through faith in Jesus. Only Jesus can save sinners. We believe that all people are born sinners in need of a Savior. We believe that those apart from salvation in Christ will spend eternity separated from Christ in a place of eternal torment called Hell.
Gospel: Jesus lived without sin, died on a cross for our sin, and on the third day rose from the grave, demonstrating that He is the Savior of the world.
Church: The local church is a community of regenerated believers who confess Jesus Christ as Lord. In obedience to Scripture, they organize under qualified leadership, gather regularly for preaching and worship, observe the biblical sacraments of Baptism and Communion, are unified by the Spirit, are disciplined for holiness, and scatter to fulfill the Great Commission and Great Commandment as missionaries to the world for God’s glory and their joy.
